  • Mission statement

Dalit Freedom Network UK is a trafficking prevention and women's empowerment organisation working among women and children from Dalit, tribal and other poor and marginalised communities in India.

Modern slavery and human trafficking disproportionately affects such communities in India. Responding to a request from Dalit leaders, we are working to protect women and children by preventing human trafficking and slavery.

This slavery takes many forms including: bonded labour, sex trafficking, child beggar gangs, abusive domestic servitude, bride trafficking, harvesting of body parts, but we have a particular focus on ritual sex slavery known locally as Jogini or Devadasi.

In the UK we are involved in raising awareness about the issues in India, and supporting holistic programmes run by our Indian colleagues including:

In India we run on-the-ground anti-trafficking projects including:
    - Prevention and Awareness Programmes
    - Economic Empowerment Programmes
    - Community Healthcare Programmes
    - Schools
    - Technical Skills Training
    - Refuge Shelters for Children and Women
