Clonard Monastery

The Redemptorist Congregation have been at Clonard Monastery for over the past 100 years. As part of the worldwide Redemptorist family, we seek to help the poor and abondoned. In Belfast we service a very popular Church (Clonard), we provide a vibrant Youth Ministry programme, preach Parish Missions and Novenas, engage in Peace and Reconciliation and Ecumenical ministry. Our largest event each year is the annual June Solemn Novena in Honour of Our Mother of Perpetual help which attracts 15,000 worshippers daily. Our beautiful Clonard Church was opened just off the Falls Road, West Belfast in October 1911. Since then it has served the people of Belfast and beyond through 2 World Wars and in more recent years through decades of unrest in what has become known in popular terms as 'the Troubles'. Through the work of some of the Redemptorist priests, a process was begun that led ultimately to the IRA Ceasefire in 1994, the subsequent Good Friday Agreement and the peace which Northern Ireland enjoys today.

  • Mission statement

We are a Catholic religious community of priest, brothers and lay co-workers who promote faith, peace and reconciliaton and justice in Belfast with a special care for the poor.

  • Aims

    Clonard Monastery aims to:

    • To restore this historic Church to its original splendour as it approaches its centenary (100 years). After 100 years you can imagine that the Church needs some interior renovations. Over ten years ago, we completely re-furbished the adjoining Monastery which still accommodates over 20 priests and brothers. In the past three years we have worked on the exterior of the Church.. As you can see from our work so far we are committed to stay with the people of West Belfast for decades to come. Now in the current phase and the final phase of our renovation plans, we turn our attention to the interior of Clonard and hope to restore it to its original splendour
