Red Balloon Learner Centres

In the UK, 16,000 children miss out on school due to bullying. Thousands more are severely traumatised through rape, bereavement, or other circumstances. Red Balloon supports these children's return to education, and to the happy lives they deserve.

  • Mission statement

The aim of Red Balloon is the recovery of bullied and traumatised children. We provide ‘intensive care’ full-time education for children aged between 10 and 17 who are unable to go to school because they are traumatised or have been severely bullied. We promise the students whom we accept a safe environment and an individual academic, pastoral and therapeutic programme. Once the students have regained their confidence and are able to cope academically and socially, we support them in their return to mainstream school, their entry to further education or to employment.

  • Aims

Red Balloon Learner Centres aims to:

    • Raise public and governmental awareness of the 16,000 children and young people who self-exclude from school because they have been severely traumatised, whether from bullying or other circumstances.
    • Raise capital funding in order to set up Learner Centres in which those young people can recover from the effects of bullying, get back on an academic track, and return to mainstream education.
    • Support all Red Balloon Learner Centres by recruiting staff, running induction programmes, and ensuring consistency in our philosophy and practice. .
