Making Communuities Work & Grow

Making Communities Work and Grow (MCWG) is a user-led voluntary organisation aiming to improve the social and educational development of disadvantaged young people. We are based in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
The project started as the “Moroccan Community Welfare Group” in 1994, in response to a lack of specific services for Arabic speaking young people in the area. Our inclusive ethos has meant that we increasingly open our doors to disadvantaged young people from a variety of backgrounds, for example from White British, Somali and Bangladeshi communities

Founded 1994

  • Mission statement

Our aim is to empower our community by assisting them in their personal, social and economic development. We do this by identifying their needs through consultations with them and tailoring our projects and services to make them as accessible as possible.

  • Aims

Making Communuities Work & Grow aims to:

    • To provide a skills development programme, which equips users with study and job skills which include: I.C.T. workshops, homework support and the like.
    • To enable young people to become responsible citizens, and integrate into mainstream society through the provision of a social education programme.
    • To provide culturally appropriate, and accessible youth work, which gives BME youth a sense of belonging, and enables them to participate in society.
    • To provide informal education and sports activities which enhance young people’s personal development, and discourages anti-social behaviour.
    • To develop confidence and motivation in young people through their participation in the design and delivery of projects.
