Size of Wales

Size of Wales is a unique initiative helping communities living in and around tropical forests to sustain them in a bid to mitigate against climate change. The sum of the areas we fund totals two times the size of Wales (4. 4 million hectares).

Closer to home, Size of Wales runs a successful Education Programme, educating Wales' future generations on the importance of tropical forest in stabilising the world's climate.

Founded 2010

  • Mission statement

A key element of Size of Wales’ work is our Wales-based education programme. We deliver workshops to children of all ages across Wales. By educating them about climate change and inspiring them to take positive action to protect the world’s forests, we are ensuring Wales’ next generation will continue to care for our planet.

Size of Wales is a climate change charity supporting tropical forest protection and tree planting projects across Africa and South America. We’ve recently achieved the overwhelming target of protecting a total area of tropical rainforest twice the size of Wales - 4. 4m hectares!

Each of our international projects work closely with local communities, supporting them to access their land rights, enabling them to protect their forests and empowering them with income generating opportunities such as bee-keeping and agro-forestry.

We bring together individuals, companies, schools and community groups to help protect 4. 4 million hectares of tropical forest. We are proud to be a key part of Wales’ national response to climate change.

  • Aims

    Size of Wales aims to:

    • To raise awareness of the importance of tropical forests for stabilising our global climate. We do this by delivering workshops, assemblies and special events to schools across Wales.
    • To mitigate against the threat climate change poses both locally and globally by supporting forest protection and tree planting projects across Africa and South America.
