Streets Ahead Rwanda

Streets Ahead Rwanda was established in 2010 to support Rwandan community based organisations working with, and for, street living and working children, helping them to opt 'in' again. Our philosophy is simple: children are children no matter who they are or where they’re from and we treat them all with respect.

Founded 2010

  • Mission statement

Streets Ahead Rwanda works for marginalised and vulnerable youth in Rwanda, particularly children who are on or have been on the street. Our aim is to give such young people a safe and secure environment to rejoin society and develop their potential.
We work through grant funding to partner agencies in Rwanda, and look to ensure that in supporting and working with children the following principles are maintained – respect for children’s choice, respect for children’s rights and proper standards of child protection. In working with our partners we look to support them in effective delivery of their programmes, and facilitate the sharing of good practice both with them and the wider network of organisations working in this field.

  • Aims

    Streets Ahead Rwanda aims to:

    • The advancement of education for marginalised and vulnerable youth in Rwanda through financial support for their education or vocational training.
    • The relief of marginalised and vulnerable youth in Rwanda particularly street children through the provision of care and protection, financial support and support in their rehabilitation.
    • The prevention and relief of poverty amongst families and communities in Rwanda to further the protection and rehabilitation of vulnerable youth in that country.
