Afghan Connection (AC) supports education & cricket projects in Afghanistan. It focuses on the provision of educational infrastructure for rural communities and aims to provide school constructions, community based education for children, especially girls, who cannot get to the nearest government school and teacher training. AC also builds cricket pitches in schools & runs camps.
The aim of Afghan Connection is to bring hope and opportunity to a generation of young people in Afghanistan through education and cricket projects. AC supports education in rural areas, by funding initiatives which give deprived children, in particular girls, the chance to access and complete an education. By responding directly to Afghan needs and operating in a culturally sensitive manner, AC’s work helps to strengthen communities, create dignity and reduce intolerance.
Since 2002, AC has funded 46 school constructions across 10 provinces in Afghanistan, reaching 75,000 children; it has also renovated a further 86 schools. Over the past 6 years, AC has focused its educational efforts more specifically on Takhar Province in North East Afghanistan, delivering a comprehensive education project. As well as school construction, this has included the provision of training for 1000+ teachers and supporting around 3,000 children in community based education. AC works closely with the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan, an NGO, which has been present in Afghanistan for 30 years.
Afghan Connection aims to:
- To improve educational opportunities for children, especially girls, in Takhar Province, Afghanistan through school construction, teacher training and easy access to education for rural communities.
- To create a better understanding between children in Afghanistan and children in UK schools. Through our projects, we have linked thousands of children in the UK to children in Afghanistan.
- AC aims to use its experience to create credible, replicable and successful educational models, particularly for girls, in other districts in Afghanistan.
- To promote peace and bring joy to the children of Afghanistan through the provision of cricket facilities and cricket coaching camps.
