Charity information

Shivia was founded in 2008 and is a UK registered charity working in India. Our programmes are operational in rural West Bengal, one of India’s poorest and most populous states. We help people living below the poverty line to earn an income from home. We do this by providing training and toolkits in agricultural enterprises. We run three programmes: Poultry Development Services, Agri-management services and Goateries. With each we empower the poor to get themselves out of poverty.

  • Mission statement

Our mission is to empower the poorest in India to create livelihoods, boost income and inspire permanent, positive change

  • Aims

    Shivia aims to:

    • To provide poultry toolkits and training to very poor women so they can start and run a poultry enterprise from home. They invariably spend their additional income on educating their children.
    • To train very poor farmers who can lease land in how to make that land more productive in an environmentally friendly and more cost-effective way. They spend additional income on expanding their work
    • To provide poor farmers with goats so that they can breed the goats and create a sustainable enterprise.
