Charity information

ACT (African Child Trust)

ACT is a UK based Charity whose vision is to relieve poverty and advance the education of children of needy widows in Africa while equipping the widows to become economically independent.

Founded 1999

  • Mission statement

ACT aims to support widows by giving their children (fatherless and/or orphans) the opportunity to achieve their full potential in life so that they can support them and their family in future, which is one way to break the cycle of poverty.
While the children (orphans or fatherless) are supported with their education, their widowed mothers and guardians are provided with life skills necessary to enable them to get into and/or run micro-finance schemes as a means to eventually become financially independent

    • Educating disadvantaged fatherless children and/or orphans to their full capabilities (secondary, college and/or university)
    • Empowering Women/Widows/Guardians through counselling, literacy and business skills training to enable them generate an income so they can sustain their families
    • Enriching entire Communities by providing technical and material support to local schools and health services especially in relation to the HIV/AIDS crisis
