Back To Earth Projects

We work in environmental and community regeneration bringing diverse communities together around food, health and their local facilities: getting fit, growing and eating their own healthy fresh food.

Founded 2006

  • Mission statement

Our vision is for these facilities to become key factors for change in the lives of people from the many communities in Tottenham.

We involve and empower people from diverse, disparate and disadvantaged communities; bringing them together to run their own local facilities and make full use of their own local land by establishing sustainable social enterprise run by, for and with local people.

We work in one of the most diverse, deprived and “unhealthy” parts of the UK – around Broadwater Farm and Tower Gardens Estates in Tottenham, N17.

We’ve run 3 successful part time pilot projects for 3 years with local volunteers from a variety of cultural backgrounds:-

1). Harmony Gardens- Based in the grounds of Broadwater Farm Community Centre, B2E has redeveloped the land into a community garden with raised beds, a polytunnel, fruit trees walk, picnic lawn and children's wildlife garden. This was achieved by involving the local community to volunteer and build the gardens with our support.
2). Community Cafe- Local people and volunteers work with our trained Chef to provide healthy lunches and snacks for the local work force and other local people.
3). Green Gyms – every Thursday,Friday and Saturday we run our Green Gym sessions: showing people how to grow easy food crops and light physical work.
All our projects offer volunteers the opportunity to gain training and work experience. We also offer a calm, friendly and informal space for those in our community who may need it.

  • Aims

Back To Earth Projects aims to:

    • We set up sustainable social enterprises like Community Kitchens; develop food growing in our community gardens and Food Co-ops – all using healthy, fresh, “local” food and employing local people.
    • Back2Earth educates and trains people to learn new skills - or develop existing ones - through practical education and accredited training in green skills, healthy fresh food growing and catering.
    • Back2Earth seeks to empower and enable local people to make the best and most productive use of their local land and community facilities - regenerating local estates and facilities sustainably.
    • Back2 Earth aims for sustainable community regeneration and local community cohesion in diverse and disadvantaged areas; reducing health inequalities, improving living standards and the environment.
