The Archbishop of York Youth Trust

The Archbishop of York Youth Trust exists to enable young people to engage with their local communities and 'be the change they want to see' through volunteering and serving others.

Founded 2009

  • Mission statement

    As a Trust we believe in Young People and that they have the potential to change our world for the better. However, doing so in the current climate can be incredibly difficult for them. Not only are there around 1 million young people not in Employment, Education or Training, that’s 15% of the youth population in the UK, but often the public perception of young people is that they are the problem in our society rather than the solution. Furthermore, our current economic and social climate only serves to make this worse with budgets cut for youth services and a worrying breakdown of community.

    As a charity we exist to REACH, ENGAGE and EMPOWER young people to be the change they want to see in their communities.

    We do this through our;
    GRANT MAKING PROGRAMME - supporting youth projects in some of the most deprived areas of the north of England

    ADVOCACY – through our testimonials, good news stories and interaction with all levels of media, we are helping to raise the profile of young people in our society and challenge the many wrong perceptions.

    YOUNG LEADERS AWARD – our school-based leadership programme which is empowering thousands of young people to serve others through social action projects across the north of England.

    As a result of Reaching, Engaging and Empowering young people through all aspects of our work, we are enabling them to become independent and responsible individuals who not only set an example for others to follow, but also participate more fully in society and realise the value of serving others and ‘being the change you want to see’.
