Canaan Project is a youth work charity based in Tower Hamlets, working exclusively with young women aged 11-19 years old facing multiple disadvantages, to see them flourish. We offer lunch clubs in two different schools for young women in Years 7-11, as well as after school provision on a local estate open to Years 7-13 and a young leaders programme. As part of our regular provision, we also offer trips and excursions in order to broaden horizons and raise aspirations.
Our vision is to see:
Young women who are comfortable in their skin; young women who know and are secure in their inherent worth and unique identity, and who care for themselves holistically.
Young women who are comfortable in their communities; young women who know the value of others and who are able to build and maintain healthy relationships.
Young women who are comfortable in the wider world; young women who have broad horizons, have hope and aspirations for their future and use their resources, opportunities and influence to bring about good for themselves and others.
Canaan Project aims to:
- We want to see young women flourish, through the prevention or relief of poverty. Tower Hamlets has the highest rate of child poverty at 54%, and we want to provide opportunities out of poverty.
- We want to see young women flourish through the advancement of equality. Young women in Tower Hamlets make up less than 30% of those accessing youth provision in the borough. We want this to change.
- We want to see young women flourish by providing girls-only spaces that are safe, and allow young women to develop and grow. We do this by building positive relationships and offering new experiences.
