To run a biennial Music Festival in St Albans. Now in its 50th year, at its heart are internationally renowned and pre-eminent organ competitions, world-class recitals and educational masterclasses.

  • Mission statement

    To promote, maintain, improve and advance education through the appreciation and encouragement of the arts, including specifically the advancement of the organ as a musical instrument and the education of members of the public in the art and science of organ music and its performance.

    The Society runs a biennial Festival in St Albans, at the core of which are two internationally renowned and highly respected organ competitions, for Interpretation and Improvisation, as well as an annual concert series and a number of ad hoc educational events e. G. Masterclasses. The Society has a around 500 loyal members, many of whom are actively involved in volunteering to assist its operations, particularly during the Festival. The Festival incorporates a wide range of events - choral, orchestral ,stringed instruments, lectures as well as organ related concerts.

    The International Organ Festival Society Ltd aims to:

    • To promote, maintain, improve and advance education through the appreciation and encouragement of the arts, and especially the advancement of the organ as a musical instrument.
    • To promote musical and fine arts in St Albans and the surrounding areas for the benefit of the wider community.
    • To operate what are arguably the world's premier organ competitions; to be a winner of the St Albans competition is a prize sought by organ students worldwide as a passport to the professional world.
