Ludus Baroque Chamber Orchestra and Choir exist to perform the great works by Bach and Handel at Canongate Kirk, thereby bringing the very best young professional musicians to perform in this very special enlightenment church for the citizens of Edinburgh.
Founded in 1997 by conductor Richard Neville-Towle, annual performances include Bach’s Mass in B minor on the eve of the opening of the Edinburgh International Festival and the Christmas Oratorio each December.
In addition to these masterworks, Ludus Baroque chooses additional repertoire to perform and record and is currently working on an ambitious programme of annual recordings. Our first recording of Handel's Alexander's Feast was released in spring 2011. The Ode to St Cecilia's Day is due out in spring 2012 and we are now working towards financing performances and a recording of Handel's Triumph of Time and Truth.
