The Carter Centre United Kingdom and Foundation, a nonprofit organization and charity, support the work of the Atlanta-based Carter Center, founded in 1982, by former U. S. President and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.
The Carter Center advances global efforts to wage peace, fight disease, and build hope by engaging with those at the highest levels of government and civil society.
Working in close partnership with The Carter Center, The Carter Centre United Kingdom supports the Center's work by raising funds and increasing awareness in the United Kingdom and Europe.
The Center's programmes, implemented to date in more than 70 countries around the world, prevent and resolve conflicts, promote sustainable development and human rights, enhance freedom and democracy, and improve people's health and quality of life, including the near eradication of Guinea worm disease.
The Carter Centre United Kingdom is supported by donations from individuals, foundations, corporations, and countries.
The Carter Centre United Kingdom seeks to promote the cause of world peace by:
*developing and supporting activities and programs directed at encouraging better understanding and communication among nations of the world;
*the improvement of educational, medical and economic opportunities for the needy worldwide;
*the reduction of hunger, sickness, poverty and distress;
*the advancement of the rule of law and democratic governance;
*the facilitation of cultural and social exchange and any other such related means; and
*developing and supporting activities to prevent and resolve violent conflict within and among nations of the world;
*to encourage and support international nongovernmental human rights activities and to recognise individuals or groups whose effects exemplify human rights leadership; and
*to support the maintence and growth of The Carter Center at Emory University or any successor institution which is part of Emory University.
The Carter Centre United Kingdom aims to:

Based on careful research and analysis, it is prepared to take timely action on important and pressing issues. 2.The Center does not duplicate the effective efforts of others. 3.The Center addresses difficult problems and recognizes the possibility of failure as an acceptable risk. 4.The Center is nonpartisan and acts as a neutral in dispute resolution activities. 5.The Center believes that people can improve their lives when provided with the necessary skills, knowledge, and access to resources. The Carter Center collaborates with other organizations, public or private, in carrying out its mission.
