The Bridge Community Education Centre

The Bridge is a vibrant community led education centre based in Moulsecoomb, an area of deprivation in Brighton & Hove. The centre was established in 1999 in response to an identified need for local residents to be engaged in learning and educational activities. We work with individuals and families to raise aspirations and encourage empowerment through learning. We support people through a range of activities to address the emotional and practical barriers to progression such as poverty, ill health, disabilities and affordable childcare.

Packages of support include a curriculum of up to 40 courses and workshops per term, comprehensive information, advice and guidance sessions for learning and work and an extensive volunteering programme in a range of roles to help with skills development and confidence building. Learners can access a range of learning and development opportunities that include leisure, first steps into learning with literacy, numeracy and IT with progression opportunities into accredited courses to support skills development.

Local residents are central to the running of the centre and strong partnerships have been developed with educational, health and employment partners to provide a range of services to support both individual and community development.
