DEMAND:Design and Manufacture for Disability

DEMAND designs and manufactures bespoke items of equipment, invariably unobtainable elsewhere. Often a piece of equipment can be all that is needed to transform the life of a person living with disability. Most of our equipment makes life more bearable, more comfortable or provides some independence. In addition, we endeavour to narrow social inequality by giving multiply disabled people greater access to opportunities in many fields, including art, education and sports & leisure activities.

Founded 1980

  • Mission statement

We’re here to help people with disabilities improve their lived experience both day to day and by being able to access more life enriching opportunities.

DEMAND: Design and Manufacture for Disability, a Hertfordshire based charity, was established in 1980 to create bespoke items of equipment for children and adults with severe disabilities, usually when no other solution exists. We try to help all who come to us, however serious their problems and regardless of their ability to pay.

The needs our clients bring with them are caused by a wide range of conditions, such as arthritis, cerebral palsy, dementia, spinal injury and sensory impairment. Many also have severe learning difficulties.

The work of DEMAND is recognised nationally and we receive more requests for our specialist help than ever before.

We are ready to put our minds to any challenge that comes our way, whether the request is from a parent, carer, health professional or directly from someone with a challenge they’d like to overcome. We know that not every problem can be solved with equipment, but we draw on our wealth of engineering and technical knowledge to help whenever we can.
