CICS Group

The Cochlear Implanted Children's Support Group (CICS) is a voluntary and independent group that provides contact, information and support for families whose children are too deaf to benefit from conventional hearing aids, but may be suitable for cochlear implants, a surgically implanted device that provides access to sound.

Deafness is often referred to as a hidden disability, but for deaf children and their families it can be a traumatic and isolating experience. Our AIMS are to: Provide support at any time before during or after a child's implant; Provide first-hand experience of the impact of a cochlear implant on family life; Link parents georgraphically, or by special situations; Offer practical help with everyday problems; Suggest ideas about day-to-day rehabilitation within the fmaily setting; Organise social events for families; Organise Information Days; Produce and circulate a regular newsletter; and Provide links with other relevant groups.
