Airdrie Astronomical Association

As the curators to Airdrie Public Observatory, Airdrie Astronomical Association (a registered charity) and it’s predecessors have been running free weekly public lectures in our local town since 1896 (115 years)In the recent past we have brought many guest speakers to the town from the world of Physics and science, as well as authors, journalists, astronauts, cosmonauts, students and amateurs. In September 2010, we brought Apollo 16 Moonwalker Charlie Duke to lecture and talk to children in our local schools. We carry out weekly lectures (all free to the public) and host the worlds only rocket competition for schoolchildren. We want to continue all this good work which requires constant fundraising. Airdrie is in a recognised socially deprived area and our constitutions key objective is education and in particular to children. We coordinate approx 70% of our voluntary time to working with children and educating them in our specialised subject matter and have a host of credible references as testament to our successes.
