Age UK Devon
Age UK Devon exists to provide life-changing support to people like Mr C. The manager and a volunteer from our Crisis Support Service found Mr C living without heating, struggling to cope with household chores and eating a very poor diet. We were able to carry out a benefits health check – assisting Mr C to increase his income by £142. 33 per week – and put through a priority application to the Warm Front Grant Scheme, so that a full heating system was installed within 6 weeks. Mr C, with his new-found financial independence, chose to employ an Age UK Devon Home Help to assist with household chores.
Our volunteer from the Crisis Support Service continues to befriend Mr C, and arranged for local parishioners to deliver emergency food supplies when his village was cut-off during the cold spell before Christmas 2010. In the words of Mr C’s daughter, who lives outside of the county, “my father would not have been able to continue to live in his own home without the help of Age UK Devon”.
As an independent and autonomous charity working across the rural county of Devon, we are passionate about ensuring all people in later life are supported to have equal chances and rights within their communities. Mr C is just one of the 10,000 people we have supported through our activities and services that promote health and wellbeing, independence and choice, and tackle social isolation.
