The CoStar Partnership
The CoStar Partnership
We are a community development charity who aims to help regenerate the South West of Cwmbran through developing and leading on voluntary and community enterprises and initiatives within the community. We strive to support an effective, sustainable and inclusive 3rd sector where all individuals and communities are empowered to play a full part in voluntary and community action.
We have a number of social enterprises that we have established and are working towards sustainability:-
•Domestic gardening enterprise which offers low cost maintenance service to residents and businesses as well as offering training opportunities and placements through an accredited training provider.
•A repaint enterprise which diverts unused paint from landfill and redistributes it back into the community.
•Growing for the veg box which grows produce locally to supplement the veg box scheme – distributing low cost, seasonal produce to the community.
We facilitate a number of support agencies from our base (currently over 12 services) ranging from financial services to alcohol counselling. Our residents benefit from increasing services at a grass roots level, for example, we facilitate Kaleidoscope, an alcohol counselling service who are based at Pontypool. To take up this service would cost residents approximately £6. 00 in bus fares. Providing this service locally, allows us to help on average 50 residents per month.
We are a local employer, employing 6 members of staff. We work with the local authority training provider as well as Usk Prison, Youth Offending Teams and a range of other services to provide placements on our projects. We have 2 trainees on NVQ work placement, 2 future job fund opportunities undertaking development work, 3 on our growing scheme and 3 as part of a community environmental team who undertake environmental improvements to open spaces and community areas. We also offer various volunteering opportunities and have 14 active volunteers, although this varies across our projects.
