Rowan Tree Cancer Care
Rowan Tree Cancer Care
Rowan Tree Cancer Care provides free services for families living in RCT whose lives are touched by cancer. The charity is supported by 7 paid staff and 95 volunteers all who have suffered from cancer
Rowan Tree Cancer Care provides emotional and practical support to families whose lives are touched by cancer living in the Valleys of South Wales.
The charity provides free transport for any cancer related hospital appointment. The transport service is a very caring personal service where our volunteer drivers, who most have either suffered from cancer themselves of cared for someone with cancer are trained befrienders. The volunteer drivers take our clients to their cancer related hospital appointment. The volunteer driver waits until the end of treatment and then takes the client home. Due to the geography of the Valleys, clients can take up to several hours travelling by ambulance, on average the charity covers 33 trips per day. At the cancer Centre we provide complementary therapies, which help the feeling of wellbeing and relaxation. Counselling takes place 4 days per week for anyone affected by cancer, which includes carers and family members. The charity also provides a wig fitting fitting service and welfare and benefits advice for families. Throughout the week various support groups meet, which includes the art therapy group, the charity choir and our textiles group. The groups are made up of people suffering from cancer, their carers and family. The charity promotes rehabilitation for people affected by cancer.
Rowan Tree Cancer Care aims to:
- The charity aims to provide a vehicle such as a people carrier to transport our carers on away days and bring families to the cancer centre.
- The charity aims to provide free transport to any cancer related hospital appointment.
