St John's Youth Centre

St John’s Youth Centre mission is to provide a safe environment for young people to be able to meet and become involved in leisure-time activities that focus on addressing the social and recreational needs of Islington’s youth who might otherwise be on the streets and at risk.

The Youth Centre’s overall aim is to promote social inclusion, good citizenship and to divert young people away from crime through it’s sessional and youth outreach work.

Our work represents a 37-year history of commitment to support Islington’s local youth to reach their full potential through:
• Learning good interpersonal relationships with their peers and with adults;
• Learning to live healthier lifestyles;
• Developing the confidence and skills for adulthood;
• Understanding how to protect themselves from harm;
• Becoming more involved with their local community; and,
• Learning to avoid anti-social or offending behaviour.

Our Youth Centre programme is run weekly by fully qualified and trained youth workers and volunteers. Membership is open to young people living in the area, irrespective of race, ethnicity, religion, and socio-economic class. Diversity and accessibility is central to our ethos. Our approach is reflected not only through our ethos and policies, but also in the make-up of our volunteers, paid staff and trustees, many of whom have been drawn from the local community.
