Kids for Kids

We help the children of Darfur by providing them with sustainable solutions to everyday problems. Projects include providing animals, training midwives and providing basic equipment to IDP families.

Founded 2001

  • Mission statement

The lives of children in Darfur are amongst the harshest in the world. The heat is relentless, malnourishment is a way of life and few families have money for medicine. Children can walk seven hours to fetch water - and longer to carry it back. Since 2001, and despite the onset of violence in 2003, Kids for Kids has worked to help over 200,000 people struggling to survive, through a range of long-term, self-sustainable projects identified and run by communities themselves. These include goat and donkey loans, training for paravets, animal vaccination programmes, water pumps, training for midwives and first aid workers, provision of blankets and mosquito nets, tree nurseries to combat desertification and even solar lanterns so children can do their homework after dark. During a visit earlier this year, a community leader told us that thirty families had returned to his village because they knew that Kids for Kids was there and they believed this gave the village the chance of a future. Kids for Kids is helping to ensure that villages in Darfur survive, and that when conflict ends, there is something left for people to return to.
