CKUK (Common Knowledge)

CKUK wants to work towards a society that fully includes people with learning difficulties and values their diversity.
CKUK works with people with cognitive learning difficulties to enrich their lives. CKUK, established in 2005, is the only organisation in the UK that offers engaging, accessible online learning, information and social networking to people with learning difficulties who are often denied basic information about life and work. We provide opportunities to make friends, learn about life about human rights and share with others their stories, skills, talents and interests.
CKUK fully involves people with learning difficulties in everything we create. Using our online friendship site, CKFriends (1,400 members) and CKClick our online magazine which enables over 4000 people with learning difficulties to contribute, communicate, inspire and engage with each other and the wider world.
The CKUK website was awarded the Nominet Best Practice Challenge Internet for All Award and praised for tackling the digital divide faced by people with learning difficulties. The director and co-founder of CKUK has won the TalkTalk digital hero for Scotland 2010 recognising the creation of the first social network for people with learning difficulties
CKUK has a core team of 8 staff who offer a broad range of skills that include teaching, online learning and web development, photography, drama, video and sound recording. We are all passionate about the work we do and always go that extra mile to make our work a positive and meaningful experience for the people we work with.
