Family Rights Group

Family Rights Group advises and advocates for families in England and Wales who are involved with, or require, children’s social care services because of child welfare needs or concerns.

Founded 1974

  • Mission statement

Established in 1974, we run a confidential specialist telephone advice service for parents and wider family members and promote policies and practices that help children to be raised safely and securely within their families, and increase the say that families have over decisions affecting their lives.

We campaign to challenge injustice, including ensuring that support is available to assist grandparents and family and friends carers who are raising children who cannot live at home.

Family Rights Group believes that children are most likely to do best when the rights and views of families, including those of children, are respected; families are asked what support they want and are given the financial and practical help they require to access these services.

The voice of children and their families who have experience of being involved with, or requiring social care services, governs and leads our work.

  • Aims

    Family Rights Group aims to:

    • To secure the best future possible for children, including those who are in need, at risk and/or live with family and friends carers, and to improve the services received by these families.
    • To promote families' participation in planning and decision making about their children.
    • To lobby for effective support and intervention from social care agencies when it is required.
