Seasons for Growth

Seasons for Growth exists to promote the social and emotional wellbeing of children and adults who have experienced significant loss or bereavement for example through divorce, separation or the death of a loved one, enabling them to healthily manage the grief associated with such a loss.

We bring this about through the provision of a grief education programme “Seasons for Growth”, originally developed in Australia, which our organisation holds on license for England and Wales. The programme uses the idea of the four seasons to help explain the stages of loss and grieving and is delivered over 8 sessions by a trained adult Companion to small peer groups of up to 10 children. Each child is given a beautiful journal handbook to accompany their journey through the programme. There are three different journals, each appropriate for a different age group. There is also a Seasons programme designed especially for adults.

Taking part in the programme helps participants to understand the emotions associated with loss, develop coping skills, discover that they are not alone in experiencing grief and develop a peer support network.

We work in partnership with other agencies to train Seasons Companions nationally to deliver the programme, often, although not exclusively in schools, wherever a group of children has been identified as suffering from a significant loss. We currently have 8 certified trainers and about 200 active Companions across England and Wales.
