Whitby & District Disablement Action Group (WhitbyDAG)

WhitbyDAG seeks to enable disabled people to live as independently as possible, making informed choices through access to services and information. We work in the small, isolated, seaside town of Whitby on the north-east coast of North Yorkshire, and the surrounding 400 square miles of high heather moorland, deep valleys and isolated villages. We have 4 full-time and 2 part-time staff and 40 active volunteers.
We provide all our services at the point of need, through outreach work, as well as in the town of Whitby itself. These services include welfare benefits advice and practical support, an information help-line, access advice, a handbook of services for disabled people and carers, guidebooks on where to stay, eat and go in the locality, an equipment hire scheme, a monthly newsletter (980 copies), a membership scheme of 270 disabled people offering educational, leisure and social activities, a fully accessible minibus, information and advice on learning and work, exercise classes and disability equality training.
