Springhill Hospice is a purpose-built facility, opened in 1989, which offers specialist palliative care to patients with life-shortening illnesses through Inpatient Unit, Day Hospice and Outpatients.
Our main aim is to provide holistic care including pain and symptom control, psychological support and respite for patients and their families and carers.
The Hospice seeks to improve the quality of life of those in its care by addressing their physical, social and spiritual needs. It does so by utilising the specialist skills of its own dedicated staff, enlisting the advice, support and encouragement of outside specialists and by maintaining vital links with primary health care teams.
Equipped for 16 inpatients, accommodation can be provided in single rooms and the main ward areas of three bedded areas. The Day Hospice is open four days a week and a maximum of 16 patients attend each day for symptom control, treatment and ‘support’ in its widest sense. Respite care is also provided.
As hospice care is provided free of charge, Springhill Hospice has to cover costs by raising over £2. 7m each year – approx £7,400 per day – and as it only receives around 30% of funding from the local NHS, the balance has to be found from a variety of sources, such as public and corporate donations, five busy shops, its own lottery game, legacies, merchandise goods and a full diary of fundraising events, both arranged in-house by our fundraising team and by third parties across th
