The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland

Since its foundation in 1979, NYOS has grown from one symphony orchestra into a thriving national arts company that now encompasses no less than 8 orchestras for promising young Scottish musicians aged 8 to 28, with additional outreach tuition and workshops in disadvantaged areas for children aged 2 upward. With around 400 students a year involved in the orchestras, and at least a further 500 supported through outreach work, NYOS educates around 1,000 young people a year, raising aspirations and encouraging excellence in youngsters from a broad range of backgrounds.

Our core mission: to deliver instrumental instruction and orchestral training of the highest calibre on a national scale, places us firmly at the heart of youth music in Scotland, and beyond.

We believe in the future of Scotland’s next generation of musicians, our students are proud and excited to be playing with Scotland’s National Youth Orchestra and we are passionate about supporting and developing their talent. NYOS music courses aim to foster an atmosphere of learning and understanding, assisting young people to become highly motivated achievers and to arouse in them a life-long passion for, and appreciation of, music in all its forms.
