Oxford Philomusica, professional symphony orchestra of the Thames Valley and resident at the University of Oxford, provides a comprehensive season of concerts and an extensive outreach programme.
Our Music Director, Marios Papadopoulos, is the founder and driving force behind the Orchestra which the Association of British Orchestras has recognised as the fastest growing professional symphony orchestra in the country, fulfilling an identified local regional need, and with a growing national and international reputation.
Oxford Philomusica combines several unique features, besides its core activity, which make it a very interesting and exciting organisation. These include the annual Piano Festival & Summer Academy regularly attracting maestros of world wide repute, a Residency at the University of Oxford, formal partnerships with both Oxford City and County Councils as well as the County Music Service, and an active and extensive community programme. It has also attracted an impressive cadre of supporters, and established a funding model which is completely independent of any form of government funded subsidy and which has been successful in these strained economic times. Without this support we could never hope to sustain the world-class music making that we promote in Oxford and across the Thames Valley.
‘Thoroughly impressive’ BBC Music Magazine
