Ladybarn Community Association

The Ladybarn area is a deprived community sitting within the Withington ward. The majority of young people have gained little or no qualifications during their time at school, consequently many young people have the perception of nothing to do or look forward to.

The young people Ladybarn Community Association engage with are disadvantaged by poverty and cannot afford to participate in many activities available to their more affluent peers. As a consequence they turn to crime, drink, drugs and anti social behaviour resulting in high levels of complaints to both the police and local councillors. Ladybarn as an area sits in the middle of a burglary and robbery ‘hotspot for the UK’. The centre’s ‘Youth Motivation project’ is used as a focus point to engage young people in activities in order to reduce Crime and Disorder across the area.

There is also a high proportion of elderly people living in the Ladybarn and surrounding areas who are suffering from poverty and ill health. The main aims of the Ladybarn Care Project service are to allow elder people to remain independent and have the opportunity of remaining in their current home. With the help of our Partner Organisations and other Providers we actively seek to address the issues that affect these key priority groups.
