  • Mission statement

Camara is a charity that re-uses technology to transform education in Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania & Zambia) as well as Jamaica and Ireland. Refurbishing donated computers, Camara establishes eLearning centres in hundreds of schools across the countries we work in, supporting these centres and the schools through an innovative social enterprise model. The model not only provides the technology, but also delivers teacher training, maintenance, end of life recycling and crucially provides employment and volunteering opportunities for local communities.

Camara also makes an environmental impact by takeing back the computers from the schools at the end of their life and recycling them, replacing the recycled machines with equivalent computers.

Camara's name is taken from an West African dialect and means “one who teaches with experience”, it enables thousands of disadvantaged children to become digitally literate, giving them opportunities for further education and employment that would of been beyond their reach and ultimately allowing them and the communities they live in to break free of the poverty cycle.

Since it was founded in Dublin, Ireland in 2005 Camara has shipped over 30,000 computers to 1,650 schools giving hundreds of thousands of students the chance to achieve digital literacy.
