Developments in Literacy (DIL) Trust UK

Developments in Literacy (DIL) Trust UK is dedicated to providing quality education to disadvantaged children, especially girls, by establishing and operating schools in the underdeveloped regions of Pakistan, with a strong focus on gender equality and community participation.

Since its inception in USA in 1997, DIL has successfully established over 150 girls’ schools in some of the poorest, most remote areas in Pakistan’s four provinces. Our aim is to provide quality education entirely free of cost to girls living in rural areas and in communities where very little development has taken place. As of December 2009, 15,500 students are being educated in DIL schools. The education they receive is secular and modern, with a strong emphasis on the math, sciences and proficiency in English. Our aim is to fully equip our students to compete in the job market. DIL's Teacher Training Centre continues improve the quality of education offered in our schools. We are now developing vocational training programmes to provide further support to the communities in which our schools are located.

DIL Trust UK is a registered charity (UK Reg. No. 1122924) whose purpose is to support its schools and livelihood skillss in Pakistan and to extend its programme to underprivileged British women of multi ethnic descent. These centres will impart practical and relevant skills, such as computer programming, accounting, book keeping, and tailoring; allowing women to gain meaningful employment in industrial and service sectors.
