We are a registered theatre chairty set up to enable the widest range of people in a community to produce and participate in high quality, original theatre that develops thinking and releases talents.

Founded 1985

  • Mission statement

Founded in 1979 by Ann Jellicoe from the Royal Court Theatre, Claque Theatre enables the widest range of people in a community to produce and participate in high quality and original theatre and perfoming arts that develop thinking and release talents. We use performance to engage communities in collective action that leads to sustained personal and social growth. Our projects respond to local issues and needs.

For example, in 2012/13, our activities included:

    (i) A site-specific, promenade play with a cast of 90 people in Hartfield, East Sussex. This has led to the formation of HARTS voluntary performing arts group

(ii) Support for participants of the Camden Road community play in Tunbridge Wells (CREATE) in sustaining and developing their community choir, performance group and annual Winter Lantern Parade

(iii) Training for the community in educational role play to address social issues in primary and special needs schools in Kent and Sussex

(iv) Devising and rehearsing ‘Kent Tales’: a series of 3-5 minute plays based on local folklore
