Mission statement
The Royal Project aims to renovate and remodel Eastbourne's Hippodrome theatre building around its magnificent Grade II listed auditorium, and to bring it into use as a fully-equipped community theatre, capable of housing work in a wide variety of theatrical and media forms, and operating all the year round.
The renovated theatre will act as a focal point for creative development in media and the performing arts, with day-long programmes to attract all sections of the community -
Aims
The Eastbourne Royal Hippodrome Trust aims to:
- Restore the Royal Hippodrome Theatre to become a multi-purpose arts venue. The Hippodrome Theatre, designed by C.J. Phipps, is the only one of the 70 Phipps’ Theatres in the UK not yet to be restored
- Encouraging local people to produce a wide range of activities and also attend these activities
- Situated in the Devonshire Ward, one of the most deprived wards in England, the precincts will encompass studios, exhibition areas, bars and cafes to become a focal point of regeneration in the area
