Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra

The Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra is a training organization and was founded in 1971 to bridge the gap between college life and the orchestral profession. Our players come from all over the UK and we give four courses and concerts a year at St John's Smith Square, London where we are resident.

YMSO assists in sustaining and developing the skills of young musicians, particularly those that have graduated and are between the ages of 18 – 25 who wish to enter the profession. Without YMSO, years of formal training could go to waste as many of our musicians do not have the resources or opportunity to maintain their skills. Very rarely does a graduate immediately obtain a job in a professional orchestra and YMSO’s mission is to provide and equip those musicians with the necessary tools required by their future employers. We focus mainly on the repertoire that will be regularly demanded from them so they will be better prepared to audition for a full time appointment. Every Orchestra in the UK has ex-YMSO players within their ranks, many of whom directly attribute their success to the time spent with us. A list of successful players is available.
