FANOS for Ethiopian Street Children Charitable Organisation

Since 1998, Fanos has worked tirelessly to support hundreds of the most deprived and vulnerable children who are orphans, from extremely poor families or on the verge of drifting out to the street.

Founded 1998

  • Mission statement

The main aims of the organisation are for the benefit of children and young people in Ethiopia, in particular those who are homeless, by the provision of sponsorship schemes, which will relive poverty, advance education and protect and preserve the health of such children and young people. Over the years Fanos has developed four core programmes to support these vulnerable children and to sustain their future via the following programmes: Sponsorship; Back to School; Housing Project; and ICT/Book Project. These four programmes aim to tackle different objectives but also to work together whenever it is essential to help the most disadvantaged children and their families. Since then Fanos has supported 238 children and over 45 young individuals who have either graduated from different professions or set up their own businesses to become self-reliant.

Today, Fanos’ most urgent effort is to open its own Children Resource Centre in Ethiopia for the use of children not only on Fanos programmes but mainly to reach out to the street children and build a relationship with them so they can have somewhere safe to go, play, read or learn how to use a computer. Eventually more children can be placed on Fanos’ programmes. This is the most important and costly project that Fanos has yet to undertake and it this can only be achieved with the help of our sponsors and donors.
