Newham Music Trust

Newham Music Trust makes the social, educational and therapeutic benefits of music accessible to the community of Newham.

Founded 1996

  • Mission statement

Newham Music Trust is the Music Education Hub of Newham and primarily provides high-level music tuition to over 10,000 pupils in one of Britain's most deprived areas through individual, group and whole class settings.
We are also the supporting charity for a number of projects working in Newham and the surrounding areas.
We coordinate projects with educational and social outcomes.

Our projects in collaboration with other organisations such as professional orchestras, and other music, cultural, youth and community organisations and services enable Newham students and young people to access inspirational and fulfilling music projects. Participation in these help them improve their music skills and equip them with valuable life skills, which music education has been proven to offer.

The AudioLab music technology project aims to divert young people away from antisocial behavior and youth crime. In Newham this issue is very close to home with a number of our students being close friends with victims of knife and gun crime. We work with the young at risk of social and education exclusion, providing them with new skills in the music industry and an opportunity to explore their emotional difficulties through music.
