Project Pencil Case - Supporting Ethiopian Students

Supplying poor Ethiopian Students with basic school supplies,
twinning UK schools with Ethiopian schools, fundraising for school projects,
volunteering ourselves and sourcing other volunteer teachers

Founded 2009

  • Mission statement

The primary aim of Project Pencil Case is to offer tangible support for underprivileged students in Ethiopia on their educational journey. We provide poor primary school students with individual basic pencil cases to supplement the single pencil they receive (all other materials are shared or not available). Additionally, PPC also supports poor schools by fundraising for identified projects and volunteering to help support literacy. By showing this basic commitment at the primary level, we endeavour to encourage these students as they progress with their education and to help raise their self esteem - when all the odds seem to be against them, we want to show them that Project Pencil Case cares. PPC also actively recruits international volunteer teachers who can donate their time and skills in schools in need which helps students learn and increases their confidence. PPC also creates awareness of these schools through our website and networking with individuals and organisations who might be able to assist in other ways - we believe strongly in working together with others also involved in the single goal of supporting the educational needs of very poor students in Ethiopia.

  • Aims

Project Pencil Case - Supporting Ethiopian Students aims to:

    • To volunteer our time in schools in need to help support literacy and to also actively recruit international volunteers to donate their time and skills.
    • To research, identify and determine costings of school projects within poor schools which need vital funding and to fundraise for these projects.
    • To research and develop feeding programs in schools where children come to school hungry and also with no provision for lunch which severely affects their ability to both concentrate and learn.
    • To provide the neediest primary school students with their own basic pencil case through collections by UK students and fundraising to purchase supplies on site in Addis Ababa.
    • To create and actively promote awareness of schools in need through our website and to work with other groups involved in helping support education in Ethiopia.
