Gloucestershire Breastfeeding Supporters' Network

Providing breastfeeding support to breastfeeding mums across Gloucestershire through 7 free weekly support groups.

Founded 2007

  • Mission statement

Gloucestershire Breastfeeding Supporters' Network (GBSN) offers free, universal breastfeeding support to families across Gloucestershire. Support is given through 7 weekly groups, run by breastfeeding mums, for breastfeeding mums. Each group is also attended by a breastfeeding specialist worker who can provide support for more complex issues. All GBSN peer supporters are volunteers - they are local mums who complete a short training course in order to support other local families through their GBSN group.

The groups are friendly and informal and are open to all mums and mums to be from pregnancy to weaning.

  • Aims

Gloucestershire Breastfeeding Supporters' Network aims to:

    • We offer a welcoming space for all local mothers to come and share experiences. This help to build strong local communities and family networks as women are empowered in their parenting decisions.
    • We offer local mothers the chance to complete a short OCN-accredited training course to become a peer supporter. Peer supporters can go on to access further educational and job opportunities.
    • We offer information and support so that local women can breastfeed for as long as both they and their baby wish. This improves health outcomes for mother and baby.
