Planting Promise

Planting Promise operates in Sierra Leone with the aim of providing free, quality education to as many people as possible. We fund this through our sustainable businesses producing food for sale.

Founded 2008

  • Mission statement

Planting Promise is a sustainable enterprise in Sierra Leone. Our dream is for every child in Sierra Leone to have access to the highest quality education, from Primary through to Secondary, funded by the sustainable enterprises of their communities. Our 7 farms bring employment, wealth and prospects, and they also contribute to the food security problem in Sierra Leone. The profits from the farms then fund our 5 schools, and we're currently building a sixth.

One acre provides enough income to sustain one free school place - one acre, one child. It's that simple. The cost to expand by one school place is just £112: that's £100 on investing in the school buildling, furnishing it, and guaranteeing a good student/teacher ratio, and £12 to expand our farmland by a further acre. Our soil to school method is proven to work, and is giving Sierra Leoneans the chance to fund their own futures.
