MapAction exists to save lives and minimise suffering in humanitarian crises.
Our skilled volunteers work at the frontline of emergencies to get help to where it's needed most.
MapAction works at the heart of disaster response. Our aim is to get life-saving aid delivered quickly and effectively to people affected by humanitarian emergencies. We achieve this by deploying teams of mapping and information experts who map priority needs and help to coordinate the response.
Since the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, MapAction volunteers have deployed to over 55 humanitarian emergencies affecting millions of people in urgent need of shelter, medical care, water, sanitation and food.
MapAction does not benefit from the major public disaster appeals. Although its volunteers give their time and expertise for free, the charity needs approximately £215,000 per year to equip, train and deploy them safely to a disaster zone. This investment has a positive impact on the targeting of hundreds of millions of pounds of aid in the disasters in which MapAction assists each year.
MapAction aims to:
- To save lives and minimise suffering in humanitarian emergencies
- To provide training to humanitarian organisations to enable them to use mapped information for emergency response and long-term projects
- To provide training and support to national, regional and international partners on disaster preparedness, so communities can be made more resilient to disasters
