The Glasgow Humane Society was founded in 1790 for the maintenance of a service for the prevention of accidents, rescue and recovery in the waterways of Glasgow and adjoining areas.

    "A charity whose sole aim is the preservation of human life in and around the waterways of Glasgow. "

    To this end the Society and its Officers & Volunteers provide and maintain craft, equipment, boatshed, jetty and slipways on the urban stretch of the River Clyde; evolve and activate appropriate partnerships with the statutory emergency services of Police and Fire & Rescue; contract with the Local Authority(ies) for the provision of technical and educational services; and liaise with numerous sporting, academic and community organisations.
