Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum

The purpose of the Smith is to be an attractive, warm and welcoming centre, in which the communities of Stirlingshire feel ownership, identity and pride, and which functions as a museum and gallery -recording, collecting, preserving, conserving and interpreting the material culture of the district. It should reflect the historical and cultural importance as well as the present day significance of Stirling at the crossroads of Scotland’s geography and history.

The key aims of the Smith are to be:

. A centre of excellence, from which a quality museum and gallery service is provided
. A major visitor destination within Stirling district
. An educational resource, delivering life long learning programmes in accessible and inclusive ways.
. A centre for major national travelling exhibitions.
. An organisation which is a Quality of Life indicator, delivering satisfaction to people who live in the Stirling area.

These were discussed and agreed by the Trustees last on 19 April 2010 and are subject to periodic revision.
