Educational Shakespeare Company

ESC is an arts education charity working with those marginalised by society for many different reasons; homeless people, youth at risk, prisoners and ex-prisoners, people with mental health issues and those with serious and terminal illnesses. It was established in 1999 and moved into film-making in 2003.

ESC’s aim is to enable people to understand and transform their own lives. We use drama and film to encourage people to explore and record their own stories. They begin to understand themselves, their motivations and their histories. Turning their stories into films enables people to see where they are and where they want to be. We value first-hand experience over second-hand knowledge, helping the audience understand the real issues behind where the participants are coming from. Alongside this process they also learn the technicalities of filmmaking. ESC is an accrediting educational body awarding ASDAN Active Citizenship Awards.
