The Byre Theatre is Scotland's only 5 star arts venue. It presents a year round performing arts programme of the highest calibre to entertain, inspire and challenge the widest audience. The Byre also is a vibrant home for festivals, home grown and international and is a growing festival and event producer across Fife. The theatre actively supports and nurtures new and emerging artists and performance companies to bring their work to the Scottish stage. The Byre Theatre proudly supports community based theatre and performance companies and supports them to develop and showcase their own work, developing creative talent for all. The Byre has a dynamic and far reaching education and outreach programme, that serves the widest communities in Fife, working with vulnerable groups, partnering education providers and pioneering creative partnerships, regional, national and international. The Byre strives to be more than a theatre. It is proud to be at the heart of a Fife –wide community.

    The Byre Theatre seeks to achieve its objectives by
    • using its ethos to promote an adventurous , expressive, approachable programme of arts events and activities
    • developing projects that increase people’s enjoyment and understanding through the arts
    • encourage and facilitate the development of people’s own creativity , knowledge and skills from early years through to our pioneering arts projects for older people and innovative creative consultancies like Imagine Dunfermline 2020
    • deepening the impact of The Byre’s work through community outreach, and regional touring
    • increasing the numbers and range of The Byre Theatre’s existing audiences and users
    • offering support, opportunities and practical help to artists to develop their work and careers
    • building on established partnerships with other arts organisations, community groups, agencies, and developing new ones
    • working in partnership with schools, cultural organisations, agencies, public bodies, colleges and universities, and the non arts sector to develop programmes for particular target groups
    • becoming the natural hub for artists making new work in Fife and to create opportunities for artist development
    • providing access to arts projects and programmes to as many people as possible including those with few resources and opportunities
    • ensuring the highest possible quality of work and artistic experience
