  • Mission statement

LDSM believes in the power of music to transform, inspire and motivate communities and change lives. We add a distinct and compelling musical focus to the cultural heritage of Cumbria.

Our festivals bring world-class artists to inspiring Cumbrian venues, providing rural communities with access to high quality performances and attracting inward investment in the local economy from visiting audiences.

Integrated with these festivals, summer schools and workshops provide young musicians with the high quality training and public performance opportunities they need to succeed in their careers and their lives.

  • Aims

Lake District Summer Music aims to:

    • To aid the development of key skills, such as team-working, listening, concentration & sensitivity, allowing children to progress and develop a lifelong and instinctive love of music.
    • Promote, improve access to, maintain, and enhance the appreciation of classical music through Professional Performances set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Cumbrian landscape.
    • Ensure that live Classical Music of the highest professional level is brought to audiences who might otherwise find a visit to metropolitan-centred concerts financially & geographically stretching.
    • Provide talented & emerging young musicians with unique opportunities to both train & perform alongside internationally renowned musicians, supporting their transition to professional careers.
