If a family has at least one child under five then we can help. Parents are supported at home by a Home-Start volunteer who visits them on a weekly basis.
Home-Start Runnymede supports parents with children under 5 in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle. We find a volunteer for the family to provide non-judgemental, practical and emotional support and help to build the famiy's confidence and ability to cope.
Our volunteers come from many different backgrounds, but all have parenting experience and are carefully selected for their friendliness and understanding. They are all appropriately approved and attend a course of preparation before being carefully matched with families. They are neither paid for their work, nor are they professionals, so they won’t replace the health visitor, but they make home visits because they have been invited and wish to offer their time and friendship.
Home-Start Runnymede aims to:
- Reduce family isolation and increase social support networks
- Strengthen parent child relationships
- Develop and improve parenting skills
- Improve children's health, well being and development
- Increase access to health, education and community services.
