The Poltimore House Trust

The Poltimore House Trust is dedicated to finding a sustainable solution to the renovation and regeneration of the fine Grade 2* listed manor house and grounds, with help from community volunteers.

Founded 2000

  • Mission statement

The Poltimore House Trust is dedicated to restoring Poltimore House to new life for its community as a centre for creativity, learning and enterprise in the arts, heritage and business. Poltimore House Trust is working in partnership with the Friends of Poltimore House to raise the funds to repair this unique Grade II* listed historic country house in Devon, to bring new purpose and activity to the house and grounds, and to establish a sustainable portfolio of activities. This remarkable community-led project is now poised to move forward with a substantial fundraising campaign. We must first raise £647,729 to renew the roof, for which we have already achieved £500,000 from English Heritage. A new roof will enable us to embark on further fundraising to achieve more than £5. 5 million for full renovation. Our next major goal is to stabilise the magnificent Rococo Saloon, and bring into use the fine rooms in the East range.

Since Poltimore House so nearly won BBC2's Restoration progamme in 2003, Friends and volunteers have secured, renovated and conserved the grounds, cleared the House and made it safe and accessible to visitors. Now open regularly, Poltimore House hosts an increasing range of educational projects in partnership with schools, colleges and universities, and aims to provide greater access and better interpretation, with a focus on learning and research in heritage and the arts.

  • Aims

The Poltimore House Trust aims to:

    • To achieve high quality restoration of the fabric and interior of this architecturally and historically significant Grade II* building.
    • To develop a diverse portfolio of educational, heritage, community and commercial activities to sustain Poltimore House as a sustainable public resource for community benefit.
